Requirements:

Members may upload videos in almost any digital video format. Keep in mind that the quality of your video cannot be improved, so it is always best to provide either the most original video format or a video format that is encoded using the Best Practices Guidelines below.

Best Practices for Video Formats

For detailed programs on practicing the best techniques for capturing video, editing, and encoding video, visit the Surgeon Today Learning Center.

Experts in surgical video production post techniques that guide surgeons and other videographers through the morass of topics that make creating surgical programs a unique field.

You can also follow these recommendations when encoding videos for the web, so that you can upload the most optimal images possible. Especially view the FAQ titled, “What are the best practices for preparing a video for upload?” We are sorry to say that Surgeon Today cannot improve the quality of any video uploaded onto this site. So it is always best to use the most original Master if possible.

Information on DVD Extraction Software

Because DVDs are a set of folders and do not consist of a single file, there are two ways of uploading a DVD: Either use a zip file compressed by software like Stuffit, which will compress folders into a single file, or use a DVD Extraction program like Cinematize and convert the DVD to a file for upload.

For more detailed information on DVD Extraction, read the FAQ.

Important HIPAA Compliance Standards

Patient privacy is of utmost importance when posting video programs or making reference to patients in any comment, blog, or descriptions of any patient on this web site. It is therefore necessary that all video programs and written descriptions and comments are HIPAA compliant.

This means that all video programs as well as written text do not directly or indirectly identify patients in any manner. Tattoos, body marks, facial features, and names are all means of identifying patients. It should be a standard practice that written and signed patient consent is acquired before surgery, and that the consent specifically state the photographing agent’s intention for use and distribution, that the footage or photographs will be posted on the web. Video programs of facial procedures must have patient consent forms filed with the hospital or surgical facility. Video programs and photographs of children must always be obtained with the consent of both parents.

Surgeon Today advocates and is fully compliant with HIPAA standards for patient privacy. For detailed information on HIPAA standards, visit http://www.hhs.gov/ocr/privacy/hipaa/understanding/.

Depending on your internet connection, upload time may vary greatly. Typically internet providers will give their customers fast download speeds, but they restrict the upload speeds to a minimum. This can also vary due to web traffic on your network. So please be patient.

Alternatively, you can mail or ship your video on disc or tape to Surgeon Today. Complete this form, but be sure to check the box indicating that you will mail the video. Make sure that you always send a copy of the disc and not the sole disc, as discs cannot be returned. Surgeon Today cannot accept video tape or double sided or Blue Ray discs of any kind. All media should be sent on DVD as files or in DVD format. NTSC DV tape and Sony DVCam tape is also acceptable, but PAL format tape cannot be accepted.

Busy Surgeons may choose a Proxy Member to upload a program for them. Be sure to setup your Proxy Members here before giving them permission to upload a video for you.
